  • Bridesmaids gifts!

    Good morning everyone!
I'm putting together slowly gifts for my bridesmaids. (All six beautiful ladies!) But since they do read this site, I can't say EXACTLY what I got them but I will say that I'm thinking about sticking everything i bought them in this bag:

    do ya like it?
I actually made that bag for another friend last year... I knat (knitted?) that bag out of 100% peruvian wool and then felted it afterwards to make it sturdy. So maybe I'll make it in different color combinations for the girls. Plus I think it would be nice for them to have a nice sized purse for the wedding!

Here's the one that I made for myself that I carry around almost everyday.

I call it my peanut butter & jelly - hello kitty bag! So as far as gifts for my girls I think I have it all figured out already. Plus making six bags will probably take some time but I think it's worth it.

Do you girls like the bags??

  • The Dress...

After all your wonderful votes on which dress I should pick....

    I came to a decision!

I'll be going to Boston this coming weekend to get it. Why not in New York City you ask? First - my friend works for the company at corporate.... Second tax-free means huge savings!

Another reason why I picked this dress is that it fits like a glove, needs no alterations and it's not as heavy as the other dress.... although I loved both, I got to admit this one fits perfect!

A lot of people said it's too simple. But the thing is... I'm a pretty laid back girl, not really into the fashion scene even though my fiance works in it. I just like knitting,  playing the piano and going to sing karaoke. I'll dress this up on the wedding day with some dangling earrings and a great veil.... sparkle everywhere. ^___^

I just wanted to thank all 403 of you for voting

  • He fancied me...

Hello, Miss Poppy here. Top of the mornin' to yous.

I thought that it was great that Miss Violet shared her proposal story so I thought I'd share about Mr. Poppy & I as well.

I remember when we first started dating Mr Poppy says to me:

    "I fancy you"

I think my expression was... Then I think I said..."hmm, thank you?"

I realized what it meant wayyyyy later. hehe

    Now onto the proposal:
We had a talk that we shouldn't eat out so much and save some money and I agreed 100%. Then a couple days later Mr. Poppy suggests that we go out to eat just for fun. I give him a HUGEEEEE lecture about how he told me that we should save our money and that we should start saving more... blah blah blah... blah blah blah. So he convinced me finally to meet him outside his work.

I get there and he suggests we take a cab.

TAKE A CAB??? WE ARE IN NEW YORK CITY FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

Not to mention we were about two blocks from the train. The whole cab ride I'm asking him WHY OH WHY are we taking a cab!!!

Then... we get to the restaurant.

MY LAWD they have cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins!!!! I'm thinking, what in the world is going on?? (um... i'm normally not this cheap hehe but keep in mind i was wearing jeans and sneakers and a huge puffy jacket)

We eat... it was lovely and then out of nowhere he tells me that some guy was giving out free t-shirts on the street and picked me up one cuz it's pink. I unfold it and tell him:

"did you know that someone put marker all over this?"

then... BAMMMMMMMMMMMMM (his knee hitting the floor really hard)

he was on the floor before I had a chance to read it!!!!

    *poppy looking at the floor*
"OH NO!!! What did you drop????????"

he dropped nothing, he was on one knee with a beautiful diamond ring and he asked me:

"Would you do me the honour of being my wife?"

And I'm still wondering what he dropped.... it didn't hit me.... until I read what the shirt said:

i hate crying in public so ..... i held my breath. then after what seemed like hours, he says:

"uhhhh babeeee??? so..... are you going to answer???????"

    "OH MY GOODNESS!!!! YESSSSSSSSS"

    then of course I'm balling.

He even had a surprise engagement party afterwards for us.... The greatest part was he wanted to take a cab and I made us walk there! We get there and everyone's late... one by one they walk in.

"HEYYY what are YOU doing here??? Guess what? I'm engaged!"
    "OHHHHH that's why we're here!"

lol. perfecto. I couldn't have asked for a better engagement.

  • Save the date!

    I'm on a posting roll....

We already sent out our save the date cards so I figure it's safe to post!

    • Wedding Cake Stamp from Michaels ($3-4 on sale)
    • Gold Ink pad from Michaels ($2 on sale)
    • New York City postcard... 5 cents each
    • uni-ball waterproof/fade proof pen in black

When we explored the streets of NYC for postcards we finally found a place that sold it for a nickle each. When we went to the cashier to check out he said...

    "how many?"
"um........ 200 do you want to count?"
    "no."

    haha.

Mr. Poppy stamped the postcards and I wrote them out. It took forever to handwrite each postcard but it was well worth it! We didn't want anyone to forget the date so we said to keep the postcard as a raffle ticket at the wedding! We're hoping that people will put it on the fridge so they'll always remember....

We already got so many emails from guests saying they will MAKE SURE they bring the postcard cuz they want the gift!!! I would post what the gift is - but a lot of my guests read this site... so.... I guess everyone will have to wait till after the wedding

Do you see the red heart? Guess what I used to colour it?
    Marker? Red pen? Crayon?

I used nail polish that had glitter. hehe.... ^___^

  • Flowers

First of all: I want to say that I'm soooooo happy to be part of weddingbee!!! ^^

I've been debating whether to hire a florist or hiring... myself as the florist for the longest time. Mr. Poppy and I are on a super tight budget since we're buying our home and having a wedding in the same year so on the wallet it's a bit of a pinch.

After doing hours and hours of research I found many wonderful wholesale flower sites. Many of which sell roses. Then I was thinking - if we get roses, we'll have to de-thorn them, rip the leaves off and it just seemed like too much work right before the wedding.

I kept going back and forth between florists and wholesale sites. After meeting with a couple florists I knew we couldn't afford it. Afterall - I have six, yes six, bridesmaids!

I finally decided that I would use pink mini cally lilies. Nothing to dethorn and cut my fingers (I'm a pianist, if I did - my teacher would literally.... kill me), no leaves to rip off... it's a beautiful flower by itself and the color of pink goes well with my wedding theme.

According to this site the calla lily is associated with elegance and charm. This flower goes PERFECTLY with my ceremony music which is all french piano music.

I contacted the wholesaler to ask if I could buy a sample of their calla lilies. I'm going to have a practice session with one of my bridesmaids and see how easy/difficult it will be. But really - I'm planning a really simple ribbon around the flowers and that's it!

Once I get a hold of these flowers - I'll be sure to post pictures of the process!

What flowers are you ladies using for your bouquet?

  • shopping for bridesmaid dresses

i've been a bridesmaid and even a maid of honour several times and every single time i either hated the dress or the process of getting the dress. now, i'm finally a bride who gets to pick the dress and kind of control the shopping experience!

i have six beautiful bridesmaids and they are all different sizes and heights. i was trying to keep this in mind when looking through catalogs and online dress retailers. what style would fit all of their body types and colour of course! four are asian girls and veronica is half hispanic - angie is tall and blonde!

after talking to veronica about serveral differnt neckline styles... we came to the conclusion that halters look best on all body types. no boobs, big boobs, skinny, regular sized.... so i began looking at halter tops for my girls.

i found several dresses from david's bridal. so i picked four that i liked, also the colour... emailed my bridesmaid and had them vote best to worst. i picked the top two dresses and took one bridesmaid to go try them on. it was wonderful since we didn't have to try on a million dresses and dresses shopping isn't easy - it really does wear you out trying on those things!

when i saw her wearing those two dresses i knew EXACTLY which one would look the best not only on her but everyone! so i picked a lilac colour - tea length dress... well it won't be tea length on anyone except the tall ones.

i liked that i gave my girls the option of voting so they get some say in it. having all your bridesmaid go with you to try on dresses is just too many opinions and it'll get really old really quick. (at least when i went as a bridesmaid with everyone there - it was frustrating, no one could agree)

the maids get to save $20 since i'll be buying my dress from david's too! plus i wanted to pick a place where they can get to easiest. they live all over the place: ohio, california, st louis, chicago and thankfully new york!

so it's nice to keep in mind the girls when shopping for their dresses. i'm sure most would wear a garbage bag if you asked them to - but let's put them in something that not only you will love but they will love :)

    i love you girls!

these are some of the flowers that i like so far.... for my bouquet and the bridesmaids. the groomsmen will get whatever we get! hahaa and yes, i will be doing it myself... even though i know it'll be a lot of work and it'll be hectic. i'm going to make very simple bouquets and just tie a ribbon on it so i don't think it'll be TOO bad. :) plus i have 6 bridesmaid, 6 groomsmen, my mom who is fantastic with arts and crafts and a million gfs who want to help.

which are your favorites? i'll tell you my favorites after you tell me yours ;)
