Flowers
First of all: I want to say that I'm soooooo happy to be part of weddingbee!!! ^^
I've been debating whether to hire a florist or hiring... myself as the florist for the longest time. Mr. Poppy and I are on a super tight budget since we're buying our home and having a wedding in the same year so on the wallet it's a bit of a pinch.
After doing hours and hours of research I found many wonderful wholesale flower sites. Many of which sell roses. Then I was thinking - if we get roses, we'll have to de-thorn them, rip the leaves off and it just seemed like too much work right before the wedding.
I kept going back and forth between florists and wholesale sites. After meeting with a couple florists I knew we couldn't afford it. Afterall - I have six, yes six, bridesmaids!
I finally decided that I would use pink mini cally lilies. Nothing to dethorn and cut my fingers (I'm a pianist, if I did - my teacher would literally.... kill me
), no leaves to rip off... it's a beautiful flower by itself and the color of pink goes well with my wedding theme.
According to this site the calla lily is associated with elegance and charm. This flower goes PERFECTLY with my ceremony music which is all french piano music.
I contacted the wholesaler to ask if I could buy a sample of their calla lilies. I'm going to have a practice session with one of my bridesmaids and see how easy/difficult it will be. But really - I'm planning a really simple ribbon around the flowers and that's it!
Once I get a hold of these flowers - I'll be sure to post pictures of the process!
What flowers are you ladies using for your bouquet?

Hi Miss Poppy Cant wait to see your posts on WeddingBee I think your bouquet sounds lovely My bouquet has sweet peas, freesha, orchids, tulips, larkspur, spray roses, and mini callas Cant wait to see your pics
im in the same dilemma.. trying to cut corners on the flowers.. just not sure if i want to deal with the stress of flowers the day before the wedding. calla lilies are nice and elegant.
I'm in the same boat as you . . . one way to definitely save money is doing your own flowers, but i don't know if want the stress of it. i think i'm going to use pink and champagne roses. i did a run through with silks, and i think i'm going to order some real ones online and see how they do.
btw...if you need help making bouquets or whatever, let me know. i can even go buy your bridesmaid flower holder things for you. i know a place in boston that is fairly priced. it's a white flower bouquet holder and you just have to put the flowers in it.
